There are some days where you just have to throw your hands up and say, “uncle”.
I’ve never been one for religion, particularly because how easy “the word of God” is used to shield scoundrels. If God is your bag, have at it, but I asked to be dealt out of that game awhile ago.
And it’s news like a recent story out of Pittsburgh, PA, where a pastor is currently in jail on charges of sexually assaulting a boy, that make me feel like my decision was the right one.
Duane Youngblood with the “Higher Call World Outreach Church” in Homestead, PA, was charged Saturday with corrupting a minor…with his penis. The victim, who’s now 21, told police that Preacher Man Youngblood raped him over a period of two-and-a-half years while Youngblood was supposed to be counseling him at the church. And get this, the assaults allegedly happened in the church office, bathroom and back room.
Diddling kids in the House of the Lord? Really?
But this is not even the best (worst) part of the sordid tale: Youngblood is also an author of a book called, “Freedom from Homosexuality: No Longer Living the Lie“, which he wrote in 2006. According to the description on Amazon,
“In this life-changing book, Bishop Duane Youngblood shares insights and truth to help anyone struggling with perversions find a place of forgiveness and deliverance in God. Through his honesty about his own life and the enemy’s plan against him, many have already been delivered from perverse sins.
As you read through the pages of this book, you may find yourself in his story as well as find your way to freedom.”
And of course, Youngblood’s current charges are not his first rodeo. The same year he published his “book”, the good bishop was accused of molesting another 15-year-old boy; for his crime he was sentenced to one year of “intermediate punishment” and seven years’ probation. According to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, “intermediate punishment” is a program where prisoners split their time in and out of prison, like a closely-managed probation. Clearly, it didn’t take.
There’s much to be said about perverts who hide behind the cross, but clearly this man was struggling with his own sexuality, and in the worst way. This seems to be a trend within the church, and it crosses the lines of denominations and faiths. If you’re gay…be gay. Now I’m sure that’s easier said than done, but the alternative should never be to prey on innocent kids, effectively screwing them up for life.
If there’s a Hell below, I imagine Bishop Duane Youngblood has a ringside seat waiting for him, but in the meantime, we can all take comfort in the notion that for him, Hell will first come in the form of a long, long prison sentence, where kiddie diddlers rarely ever find solace.
