Well, all that’s over now, and we’re back from what was actually a much needed step away from things. I’d hoped to record some of the all-night party I attended at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but it was too cold, and I was too drunk to make heads or tails of anything resembling a good conversation, so look like you’re just going to have to miss out this time, which let’s face it, is probably just as well, since no one wants to hear the adventures of grown men (and women) drinking themselves stupid under the auspices of the world’s greatest racing spectacle.

However, while I was gone, the world declined to stop spinning and in my absence, some pretty heinous things happened. By now, the world has chimed on the tragedy that took place over the weekend in Isla Vista, California, where a lonesome nobody named Elliot Rodger decided to carry out a dark plan of revenge highlighted within YouTube and a manifesto, explaining his motivations, which culminated in the deaths of seven, including himself, and a number of others injured.
In the aftermath of the killings, social media came alive with new hashtag movements such as #YesAllWomen, as they are wont to do. I was out of town, and while I wanted to dive right in, I decided to wait until I got back, because certainly this isn’t a conversation that’s going away any time soon.
I have definite feelings about this, more over, I realize that some of those feelings will run counter to what might be considered acceptable by some. But then that’s not why you come here. Throughout this week, we’ll be covering a number of stories concerning, or related to the Rodger Rampage. (now that’s catchy!) From chants of Misogyny to gun nuts making the tragedy an attack on their way of life, everyone is leaning in to make an ass of themselves, while people, regardless of the reason are dead.
Thursday’s edition of the Never Daunted Radio Network will be devoted to the issue, and I hope to bring you some solid segments sharing my own and other’s take on not just the killings, but how whipped up people can get when they latch onto something they believe is a just cause, not to say that some aren’t.
