Look Ma, No Nipples!

For those of you interested in general geekery, here is the freshly-released image of lovable douchebag Ben Affleck in costume as Batman in the forthcoming Batman vs. Superman.

Yesterday, director Zack Snyder teased fans with an image of what appeared to be the Batmobile half-covered under a tarp. Given that the internet is an ever-hungry machine of people starved for even the least bit of info, it certainly got the conversation started.

Since Affleck was cast as the Caped Crusader, a mix of love and hate (mostly hatred, I mean it IS the internet) has surrounded what little was known about the upcoming film, but those close to either Affleck or Snyder who happened to see tests of Affleck in costume had nothing but good things to say, and now we get at least a partial look at what to expect next summer.

On first glance, the costume, with a huge bat-insignia an short ears is very reminiscent of Frank Miller’s design featured in 1986’s The Dark Knight Returns.

Director Zack Snyder seems to be taking his design from a familiar source.

For me personally, one of the biggest problems I’ve had with the portrayal of Batman in films to this point has been the constant design of an all-black costume. Although the debut picture is in black and white, chances are, we could finally be seeing something different when it comes to the depiction of Batman in films.

Then again, you can get the costume right and blow everything else, see: Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Of course, film fans and comic geeks still have plenty of time to get upset about the upcoming Batman vs. Superman film as the designs for Superman, Wonder Woman and other featured heroes come trickling out in the weeks and months ahead.
